Lincoln Composites offers a wide variety
of TUFFSHELL® fuel tanks for storage of compressed natural
gas and hydrogen vehicles. Our patented design and manufacturing
technology also lends itself to our composite accumulator bottles
(CABs) for oil & gas and automotive applications. Our in-house
engineering capabilities enabled us to expand our fuel tank
product line to include modular fuel storage systems for bus
and truck applications.
The
TUFFSHELL® gaseous fuel tank designed and produced
by Lincoln Composites has all the performance characteristics
desired of a vessel for hydrogen storage. TUFFSHELL®
hydrogen tanks are the lightest weight tank on the
market and offer superior fatigue life, excellent durability
and low permeation at a competitive cost.
Over 55,000 TUFFSHELL® tanks are currently being
used in various CNG and hydrogen storage applications
throughout the world. Applications ranging from roof
packs on transit buses to tanks mounted in automotive
OEM vehicles and stationary hydrogen storage have benefited
from the patented construction of the TUFFSHELL®
Type 4 pressure vessel.
The all-composite construction of the vessel provides
numerous advantages and design flexibility to adapt
to a wide variety of application requirements. One of
the most valuable assets of the tank is provided by
the plastic liner. This liner allows for an almost unlimited
fatigue life and resistance to many of the environmental
elements that can affect metal-lined tanks. Further,
the plastic liner is not susceptible to the hydrogen
embrittlement that can affect metallic structures. The
patented boss/liner interface allows versatility in
the design of the bosses. Aluminum and stainless steel
boss materials are both available.
The TUFFSHELL® hydrogen tanks listed below are available
in volumes from 29 to 539 L and in service pressures
up to 700 bar. Tanks can be purchased in lengths up
to 3 meters and diameters up to 560 mm. Custom sizes
and higher pressure tanks can be built to meet your
specifications. TUFFSHELL® tanks meet the requirements
of applicable and proposed standards for compressed
hydrogen fuel cylinders such as ISO/DIS15869, EIHP Draft,
HGV2 Draft and METI-KHK hydrogen standard.

TUFFSHELL® Fuel Storage Systems
Lincoln Composites has a variety of modular storage systems
available for bus and truck applications. These systems include
TUFFSHELL® fuel tanks, a mounting frame, plumbing, covers
and mounting brackets that are specially designed to mate to
the contour of a bus. These light weight modules are easy to
install and can hook directly to your fill or engine lines.
Complete fuel systems, including pressure regulator, fill manifold
and other fuel components, may also be available.
The TUFFSHELL® Truck Pack utilizes universal
mounting to the chassis rails behind the vehicle cab. Three
TUFFSHELL® tanks provide 56 equivalent gallons of diesel.
These light weight packs are built with a steel frame, plumbing,
and aluminum covers that can be color matched to your vehicle.
Mounting brackets with vibration shocks are also available.
These Packs are designed to be easy to install and field maintenance
friendly.
TUFFSHELL® Accumulators
Lincoln Composites manufactures durable pressure vessels for
the off-shore oil platforms. These tanks are built to ASME Code
Section X, and are used for tensioning systems. Composite Accumulator
Bottles are price competitive and much lighter than their steel
constructed counterparts. Because of the high cycle life of
the TUFFSHELL® tank, our patented technology is unequaled
for use in automotive accumulators.
